Chaparral High School has five concert bands. Wind Ensemble is our top advanced band, this band meets second period after marching band season is completed. Symphonic Band is our second advanced band, this band meets first period once marching band season is completed. Chamber Ensemble is an all volunteer band that meets one to two days per week after school, rehearsals are typically on Wednesdays. Concert Band is for students who would rather not be involved in marching band and is geared towards the improving instrumentalist who would like to advance their instrumental musical skills. Beginning band is for beginners who have decided at the high school level that they would like to learn how to play an instrument. This has seen students move from learning how to hold an instrument at the beginning of the school year to move to our top band after only one year of diligent study. Students must provide appropriate concert attire. Hours outside of class are necessary.
This one-year course is designed to introduce the instrumental music student to contemporary stage band literature and techniques. A student will receive direction in solving interpretation problems and will be given an opportunity to experiment in the area of improvisation. The importance of sustained effort and practice is stressed for technical proficiency. A variety of performing experiences will be provided. This course may be repeated. If this course is taken in grades nine to twelve, the student will fulfill either the one arts/humanities credit or one of the elective credits required for graduation. Students must provide appropriate concert attire. Hours outside of class are necessary. Travel is required with fundraising opportunities provided. All rehearsals and performances are required. There are two jazz bands at Chaparral, Intermediate and Advanced Jazz.
